artist statement:  Between you and me

In front of an enclosed house, at the edge of a forest, in fields of flowers, an isolated place…Although imagined fantasies, the depicted sceneries are rooted in reality and reflect my personal history, I attempt to translate sensory experiences; situations that retain the gaze and remove us from the everyday monotony. Suspended momentums, where an odd quietness holds in the atmosphere or that stimulates persistent memories.

While inspired from intimate occurrences, often in the countryside of Switzerland where I grew up, the work expands and is issued from the legacy of European painting. The fascination of outdoor scenes and their spiritual connotation flower fields and forests are themes recurrently explored by the impressionist, symbolist and Nabis movements.

I revisit these subjects for their relevance today. Their notion of beauty, their timeless and humble qualities offer a space that contrast with our time of ecological distress, overpopulation, consumerism and technology.

The activity of painting itself counter the speed of our urban life-style.

I hope to propose a sensory experience that outshines narrative through a pictorial language that puts forward the use of colour and an attention to surface.
